Will Burn More Fat If I Workout in a "FASTED" State?
Menopause series - Article 2
YOU DON'T BURN MORE FAT BY WORKING OUT "FASTED" YOU BURN MORE FAT BY BUILDING MUSCLE.
How do I build more muscle? Lift weights and eat more.
Especially if you are a women over 40 or 50. Contrary to trending (and incorrect) advice, we just don't do as well in a fasted state.
When you eat something 30-90 minutes before your workout, you'll have more energy and stamina. You'll be able to push harder.
What to Eat: Focus on easy to digest foods -
handful of raw nuts
A simple shake with protein powder and nut milk
A teaspoon of nut butter and a brown rice cake
Don't run on an empty tank.
Working out in a "fasted" state increases your stress hormones.
If you deplete your glycogen stores, you increase cortisol (your stress hormone).
Too much cortisol slows your metabolism, can deplete muscle, and makes you hold on to excess fat (especially belly fat).
Bottom Line: you maybe chronically stressed. Life is stressful. Diet is a stress. Exercise is a stress ( a good one, but still a stress). Don't add extra stress by doing "fasted" workouts.
