100 million people in American – 1 in 3 people – has been diagnosed with Fatty Liver disease. Can you imagine how many more people are walking around with this silent disease unknowing?
A few names for Fatty Liver? Alcoholic Fatty Liver, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver, and more recently, Disassociated Metabolic Fatty Liver.
Let’s be clear, fat doesn’t cause you to be fat, it’s starch and sugar that makes you fat.
The biggest cause in Americans? Soda, Carbs, Sugar (NAFL) and Alcohol (AFL)
If you are suffering from any metabolic disease such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and/or you are overweight, you most likely have a Fatty Liver.
Gone undiagnosed, Fatty Liver becomes Fibrosis (3 stages) and then Cirrhosis.
Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver and the point of no return.
Why do I say, “the point of no return?” Because the liver is the only vital organ in the human body that can repair and regenerate itself 100 percent.
However, when consistently assaulted with poor lifestyle choices, there is a point of no return. This is called Cirrhosis, scarring of the liver.
How do most people check in with their health or a regular basis? Normally we check in with how we look and how we feel to gage our health, right?
We go to the doctor annually and look at our blood tests to see if anything is out of range.
Did you know that you can have stage one Cirrhosis and your blood panels can still look “normal?”
Did you know that “normal” is based on the population which is overweight and under nourished?
Western Doctors have been trained in “treatment,” not “prevention.”
If you ask your General Practitioner about the possibility of “Fatty Liver,” he/she might say something like, “I’m not worried because your blood panels are normal – so we are clear – cirrhosis stage one is not always seen in blood panels. When you do see it, the damage is already done.
If you are over the age of 50, drink alcohol, eat a high carb/high sugar diet, eat processed, boxed, canned, and frozen foods, are overweight or even skinny (it’s no longer a disease exclusive to overweight people) or worse, have diabetes or cardiovascular disease, start working on cleaning up your diet and lifestyle as if you already have “fatty liver.”
What do you have to lose? You can only progress into a healthier you!
If you are concerned, ask your doctor for a blood test that includes a fatty liver test –
AST, ALT, GGT are blood tests
Best option is an Ultrasound.
ALT AND AST TESTS CAN STILL be normal in stage 2 and 3 Fibrosis because the liver is no longer working properly to create these enzymes.
The good news? If you catch Fatty Liver before Fibrosis Sage 3 or Cirrhosis, Lifestyle changes can reverse the damage. Remember, the liver can regenerate itself.
